GST awarded US Patent for its cutting-edge technology for Global Asset Tracking

Santa Ana, CA (July, 2006) — The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded GST with another patent, US Patent Number 7,072,668, "Durable Global Asset-Tracking Device and a Method of Using the Same", with 49 claims in total. This patent provides the most advanced technology that offers a versatile communication system for tracking mobile assets globally.

Among its many capabilities, the communication system:

  • Constantly accesses multiple communication networks and automatically switches among the available networks to ensure the most economical communication mode.
  • Offers global tracking capabilities without the need for a constant, external power supply.
  • Has an integrated motion sensor that uses a combination of GPS updating and dynamic movement calculation to obtain the most reliable position estimation, allowing for the current location of the mobile asset to be identified within a small radius at any moment.

Another important component of this new technology is that direct exposure to GPS satellites is not required at all times to obtain location information. The system obtains position information from GPS satellites whenever valid signals are available and provides its own location computation when GPS signals are not readily accessible.

John Lim, CEO of GST, says the patent award couldn't have come at a better time. "There is a tremendous demand for asset-tracking from a variety of industries, be it tracking of vehicles, handsets, PDAs, or any other form of mobile assets," Lim says, "GST's product lines of mobile-asset tracking not only offer interoperability among different agencies using different CAD systems on different wireless networks, but also provide an integrated solution to assist mission-critical operations."

Lim says this latest patent award demonstrates the commitment GST has to developing quality and meaningful products. "GST has been serving our clients in Public Safety, Law Enforcement and School Transportation with products of proven technology for many years," Lim says. "With these recently awarded patents, we're ready to expand our mobile-tracking product lines to a wider market segment. In the meantime, our R&D will continue to develop products of the future generation that are protected under GST's patents."
