GST's Multi-agency Interoperability Tracking System to be implemented in Seven Orange County Cities

Santa Ana, CA (December, 2006) — GST has started implementation of GST Multi-Agency Interoperability Tracking System (GST Tracker®) for the consortium of seven cities in Orange County, CA. This real-time tracking system is hosted by the City of Anaheim and is currently tracking all the important mobile assets operated by the city, including fire engines, fire trucks, police vehicles, and vehicles of Public Utilities and Public Works. In addition to vehicles, the same system also tracks firefighters holding Nextel GPS-Enabled handsets or Blackberry units. The present expansion of the Anaheim tracking system will significantly enhance the interoperability among all the fire departments dispatched by Metro Cities Fire Authority, including Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and City of Orange. The system is specifically designed to support mission-critical operations and major incidents by enabling all the participating agencies to view available resources of other agencies whenever such needs arise.

One of the most important advantages of GST Tracker® is its capability of supporting multiple protocols of wireless communications. The Anaheim system is seamlessly integrating location data of different devices transmitted through multiple wireless data networks, including hard-mount GPS devices and handsets. Another major advantage is that dispatchers and field officers of the participating agencies share a Common Operational Picture. Not only can dispatchers of neighboring agencies see each other's vehicles or personnel, field officers in vehicles may also view the current locations of other vehicles whenever needed. Furthermore, with GST Mapper® installed on Mobile Data Computers, field officers or firefighters can easily switch the view to a specific group to obtain the needed information. The field officer may choose to see the locations of assigned incidents, the shortest route from the vehicle to the incident, the street map, the parcel map, fire hydrants, aerial photography, plot plans, run cards, and numerous layers of data that could be critical to field operations at the time of emergency. GST Mapper® also provides optional functions for Reverse 911 Notification, Geo-fencing, and Targeted Messaging.
