LASD Emergency Operations Bureau (EOB) tapped into GST's Technologies during its Multi-Agency Data Interoperability Exercise
Santa Ana, CA (March, 2007) —
When a crisis occurs, effective communication is crucial. Communication becomes even more critical when multiple crisis events occur simultaneously within a county, triggering a multi-agency and multi-discipline response.
In such times, it is imperative that various agencies and on-site management teams have real-time views of all assets assigned to a particular incident and for the various Emergency Operations Centers to have an overall picture of the Operational Area deployment.
In a recent training exercise, the LASD's EOB demonstrated multi-agency data interoperability using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and multiple communication protocols (CDMA, IDEN, EVDO, GPRS/EDGE, 3G).
LASD's EOB, On-Site Incident Commanders, and participating departments were able to have One Common Operating Picture in a Crisis Situation. This involves knowing the real-time locations of all resources responding to one or multiple incidents. With One Common Operating Picture, any authorized personnel from the EOB or from any on-site Incident Location will be able to view real-time locations of both vehicles and personnel from multiple departments.
Twelve different departments in Southern California including LA County Sheriff, Orange County Sheriff, LA County Fire and other agencies participated in this exercise.
Corporate sponsors include Sprint/Nextel, Motorola, Cingular, Multitech Systems, and GeoSpatial Technologies.
