Situational Awareness with Multi-agency Interoperability in Riverside County, California
Santa Ana, CA (February, 2008) —
Santa Ana, California (February, 2008) Riverside County Fire Department (RCFD) successfully implemented GST Tracker®, an advanced tracking system designed for multi-agency interoperability, in February 2008. With this system, the Fire Department brings real-time situational awareness into one common operating picture accessible to fire fighters, field commanders, dispatchers, fire stations throughout the county, the Fire Chief, and even the headquarters of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) located at Sacramento, California.
The implementation of GST Tracker® is especially significant in providing interoperability to all public safety agencies in the county. This system not only supports all fire vehicles and fire stations throughout the county, but also provides the situational awareness to Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Riverside County Health Department, and the fire departments of all contract cities. Furthermore, this system will interface with the same GST tracking system currently hosted by Cathedral City supporting Cathedral City Police Department, Cathedral City Fire Department, and Palm Springs Fire Department. Several other local agencies in Riverside County will join the system soon.
The County of Riverside installed GST Mapper MDC software on all Fire Department's vehicles in 2005. Since then, firefighters in the county have benefited tremendously with the capability to view in real time the vehicle's current location, the locations of all other fire vehicles, the locations of incidents, the CAD messages, the shortest route from the vehicle to the incident, the aerial view of the region, fire hydrants, parcels, plot plans, and numerous layers of GIS data. GST Mapper® receives CAD messages and incident information through a live interface between GST and Northrop Grumman CAD. The latest implementation of GST Tracker® has substantially enhanced Riverside County's preparedness in responding to any events of public safety concern.
