GST Optima assisted LAPD with situational awareness on May Day
Santa Ana, California (May, 2008) —
City of Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) used GST Optima with Sprint Nextel Go-Kit handsets to support police operations during the Immigration Demonstration on May 1, 2008. Designated teams of police officers that are assigned to be on the streets with the demonstrators were equipped with Sprint handsets throughout the event. The multi-purpose handsets are designed specifically for law enforcement agencies and first responders to maximize communication and tracking capabilities during emergency operations and special events. These GPS-enabled handsets are loaded with GST Optima mobile software for real-time tracking and targeted messaging. The use of GST Optima tracking system brought a tremendous advantage of situational awareness to LAPD throughout the entire event.
With GST Optima, dispatchers and field commanders can view the locations of any specific teams at any time, using either a workstation in the dispatch center or a laptop computer in a mobile command post. The Targeted Messaging feature allows the Incident Commander to select any teams on the map and send short messages to all the selected teams. The detailed activity data throughout the event can be saved for analysis, which is especially useful to assist the planning for future events. GST Optima offers both client-server and web-based solutions to meet the different needs of agencies of any size.
