Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deployed GST Mobile Mapping System
Los Angeles County, CA (July 2008) —
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department(LASD) deployed GST Mapper Mobile Mapping System in the City of Industry Sheriff's Station. The system provides state-of-the-art mapping and tracking technologies for both dispatch center and patrol vehicles equipped with mobile data computers (MDCs). With the real-time tracking capability, dispatchers can effectively identify and dispatch the unit closest to an incident. Deputies in patrol units can also find nearby units when there is a need for assistance.
One important component of the GST system is that it has an interface to LASD's Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) which transmits live call-signs to GST Mapper Mobile Mapping System. As such, the units can be easily identified as each vehicles is labeled with the current officer's call-sign.
In addition to the advanced tracking and mapping capabilities, the GST Mapper Mobile Mapping System also incorporates critical sensor activities where dispatch workstations and other sister units' MDCs will be able to view the location of the unit(s) with the activated sensor and the type of sensor activation. The GST Mapper Mobile Mapping System for this project uses LASD's GIS data including the most up-to-date street map and high-resolution aerial photography.
