Kings County, CA, implemented cutting-edge technology for regional interoperability

Santa Ana, California (June 2009) — Kings County, CA, accomplished unprecedented regional interoperability with the implementation of a comprehensive real-time tracking, mobile AVL with mapping and routing, and crime mapping system using GST’s cutting-edge public-safety technology. The project, a collective vision of the Sheriff’s Department, Chiefs of Police, and Kings County Board of Supervisors, is designed to support joint operations of multiple first-responding agencies in the region. The system currently supports units of the Sheriff’s Department, Corcoran Police Department, Hanford Police Department, Hanford Fire Department, and Lemoore Police Department. Kings County Fire Department is in the process of participation.

The implementation of the system, requiring thorough planning, scheduling, and constant coordination among multiple organizations, was accomplished by Kings County Office of Information Technology. The project involves the collection and processing of several GIS data layers provided by Kings County GIS Community Development Agency, configuration of the County’s computer network and high-speed wireless communications, setting up tracking and database servers, installation of mobile data computers (MDC) and vehicle GPS devices, construction of the vehicle monitoring database, and training of officers and system administrators. The collaboration among all the participating agencies contributed significantly to the success of such a major undertaking.

GST’s software products deployed in Kings County include the latest version of GST Tracker for real-time vehicle/handset tracking, GST Mapper for mobile mapping and routing, GST Viewer for dispatching and monitoring, GST CrimeMap for crime analysis and mapping, and GST CrimeMap Mobile for in-vehicle crime mapping. These products will interface with the County’s new dispatch system to integrate with both CAD and RMS databases.
